The Council of Alaska Producers (CAP) is the statewide, non-profit trade association representing Alaska’s large metal mining industry. Our mission is to help Alaskans not only gain a better understanding of what mining contributes to our state’s economy but also how Alaska’s modern mines operate in an environmentally safe and responsible manner. The history of mining in Alaska goes back over a century, but today’s operating mines comply with stringent state and federal laws and regulations to protect health, safety and the environment.
Alaska’s mines offer thousands of high-wage jobs, provide revenues for local and state government, and generate purchases of goods and services from businesses across the state. Whether it’s the metals used in manufacturing mountain bikes or laptops, or the components that operate automobile air bags or are used in heart surgery, the products of mining in Alaska and elsewhere make our lives better everyday.
